Orthodontic Therapy

Ⅰ. Will wearing braces corrode your teeth?

At present, the enamel adhesive specially used for the oral cavity is used to bond the appliance on the tooth surface, and it is fixed on the cleaned tooth surface for about two years. This is a very mature bonding technology that has been used in dentistry for more than 40 years, and it will not affect the tooth surface after the treatment is completed. The so-called corrosion is actually mainly caused by poor oral hygiene, not by braces.

Ⅱ. Is there an age limit for the orthodontic therapy?

In terms of age, the orthodontic therapy is available from teenagers to the elderly. Although adults are fully developed, their own tissue response is slower, and the correction period is longer than that of adolescents, but the final treatment effect will not be significantly different.

The real limitations of orthodontics are some oral diseases. For example, some people have developed dental caries, pulpitis, periodontitis, and some temporomandibular joint diseases. In this case, these oral diseases need to be dealt with before the orthodontic therapy.

Therefore, as long as the periodontal tissue is healthy, orthodontic therapy is generally feasible.

Ⅲ. Why do you need orthodontic therapy?

1. Prevent dental caries and maintain periodontal health

Improperly arranged teeth have many dead spots, which are not easy to clean thoroughly. The deposition of tartar may be accompanied by symptoms such as gingival swelling and pain, bad breath and other symptoms. Over time, periodontal disease may occur, which may cause loose teeth and gingival recession. The corrected teeth are neatly arranged and easy to clean, which is conducive to the prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease.

2. Be good for digestion

Abnormal occlusion will affect chewing. Correction can enhance the chewing function of the teeth, relieve the digestive pressure of the gastrointestinal tract, and promote the absorption of nutrients.

3. Improve oral function

Improve occlusion, pronunciation and other problems by adjusting the balance of the oral and jaw system.

4. Boost self-confidence

Many people have concerns because of their misaligned teeth. They dare not open their mouths when speaking or laughing when taking pictures. Corrected teeth tend to look much better and give people more confidence.
